How to Track Daily Student Attendance

Time: 2 Minutes Difficulty: Easy

The Challenge: Calling out roll numbers and ticking a physical register takes valuable class time (10-15 minutes daily). Manual registers also make it impossible to instantly notify parents when their child is absent, leaving a safety gap.

Manual Method vs. Smart School

Task Manual Way (Old) Smart School Way (New)
Time Taken 10-15 minutes/class 2 minutes/class
Parent Alert Manual phone call Auto SMS Sent
Reports End-of-month calculation Real-time Dashboard

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Open Attendance Register.

Go to Academics > Attendance. Select your Class and Section.

  2. Mark Absentees Only.

By default, all students are marked "Present" ( P).
Simply uncheck the box for students who are absent. This is much faster than marking everyone present.

  3. Add Remarks (Optional).

If a student is on Leave or Sick, you can select the reason from the dropdown or type a note.

  4. Save & Notify.

    Click .
If "Send SMS" is enabled in settings, parents of absent students will instantly receive a notification:
"Alert: Your ward [Name] is absent today [Date]. - Smart School"

Troubleshooting

If you face issues, check these common solutions:

  • "Student missing in list": Check if the student is Active in the Student List.
  • "SMS not sent": Ensure you have sufficient SMS credits and the parent's mobile number is correct.
  • "Wrong date": Check the date picker at the top. It defaults to Today.
